The name of the dessert comes from the fact that in ancient England the plum cake was made with dried plums (plum). This cake, however, was more like a tart, the recipe was then modified to obtain the simple but tasty product that we know and that the Anglo-Saxons call "Pound Cake" (a name that in the past remembered the exact quantity needed per ingredient: a pound, that is, one exact pound for each ingredient).
